3. Personally, I was thinking that your challenge was skewed against the skewer … so I propose “SHISH”

   Also, SWIMS is both upside-down and backwards, while “SHISH” is merely upside-down.

4. But you’re TURNING the word upside down, an action that you did not specify in the poser.

   When you just flip SWIMS upside down, it becomes SMIWS.

   That’s why I got HIKED. I’m sure there are others, when you think about just flipping the letters.

5. As for SHISH, you have the problem of the reversed Ss.

   Got another one that’s good on the flip: HEEDED. But that’s six letters.
