When I was a child, in the 1950′s, we neighborhood kids would run out whenever the DDT/mosquito truck came by and play in the thick clouds emitted by the truck. Ah, better living through chemistry.

In any conflict profits will win out over facts. (At least in the short run) Look how long it took to gain acceptance that tobacco might be harmful to your health.

I also had one experience with an x-ray machine at the shoe store.

I’m surprised that the anti-engine-knock lead additive (tetraethyllead) for gasoline wasn’t number one on this list since it was solely responsible for releasing millions of tons of toxic lead into the atmosphere. Its inventor, the poor, misguided Thomas Midgley, Jr., was also the man responsible for CFC’s.
I’m not sure why he hated the air so much.

I first learned of the ladies who painted the watch faces on “1,000 Ways To Die” and was skeptical that the story was true. Thanks to this article and subsequent posts by other readers I now understand that it is absolutely true.

Yes, I know, they have a disclaimer that the deaths depicted on the show are based on actual deaths, but some I have seen are just SO unbelievable!

As Tamsyn already mentioned, someone needs to correct the spelling of Marie Curie’s name. She died of radiation-related problems, and it’s likely her husband also would have except he was run over and killed by a wagon instead.
