New Blackberry Feeds off Good Vibrations
by Mangesh Hattikudur - September 13, 2006 - 10:34 AM

8100_SideAngleRight.jpgNew Scientist’s Invention Blog is reporting that the new Blackberry is going to get a whole lot smarter thanks to some new technology. Apparently, the handheld will vibrate a little every once in a while (a really small vibration that won’t be mistaken for a ringtone), and depending on how it shakes, will determine where it is. The amazing part is that it’ll be able to figure out whether it’s on a table, in a hand or in a pocket, and then behave accordingly. On a table, it’ll ring loudly to alert users of e-mails, in a hand it’ll simply vibrate, and in a pocket or bag, it’ll save batteries by turning off its screen! Anyway, you can read more at New Scientist, or actually view the patent application here.

  1. Until the Blackberry can point me in the direction of undiscovered treasures, I’ll stay away from it, thanks. :)

  2. I know how you feel. My cel phone family plan is basically an elaborate system of cups and strings.

  3. ah…the corporate noose is about to gte tighter. i figured they’d eventually figure out a way to negate the ‘i didnt hear it ring’ excuse.

  4. Will it be able to tell which part of the body it’s closest to?
