Some of you might have seen this little flash-based brain game. Whenever my mother forwards me something, I have to assume at least half the moms in America have already seen it. Nevertheless, I thought it was appropriate for the _floss for two reasons:
1) If you haven’t played the game, you’ll probably dig it and
2) We’re giving away two cool new books to two lucky winners
Here’s how you play. Click the link and then click start. Numbers will appear and then disappear. Your job is to memorize the numbers’ respective positions and then click on them starting with the smallest and proceeding on up in order to the largest.
After 10 rounds, the program will calculate your brain’s age.
I tried it a couple times and scored a 27 and then a 24, which made me feel pretty good since I’m practically twice that.
Post your lowest score in the comments, along with your actual age. We’ll give away two books*: one to the first person with the absolute lowest score and one to the person with the biggest difference between actual brain age and brain age according to this fun game (please post your math, too).
All we ask is that you tell the truth, of course… because what fun would it be if you embellish or stretch or otherwise warp the actual results?
* The two new books I have sitting on my desk right now, waiting to be claimed, are: Adam Nimoy’s just released ‘anti-memoir’ My Incredible Wonderful, Miserable Life (yes, son of Leonard) and Christopher Cerf and Victor S. Navasky’s Mission Accomplished! How We Won The War In Iraq.
I’ll tell the truth. The game says 32…and I wish I were 32. But I just turned 42 a little over a month ago.

3 more runs — 26, 28, 26. No way will I ever beat 26. Age 65, max diff 39. Maybe the prize should go to the difference which is the biggest percentage of age?– being so old gives me an unfair advantage if raw scores are used.

Well, I did it the normal way and didn’t get my age. As you can see by everyone else’s results, the minimum number you can get is 20. The max, if you get all wrong, is 120. Even if you get ALL 10 correct, which is unimaginable (because they provide fake circles which don’t have numbers; 10 numbers, but 12 circles), you still only get a 20. So technically, this game can’t be correlated to age, as anyone below 20 years old can never get their age. Sorry to be a spoiler, but after I get past the fun of a game, I like to figure out how it works.

I wish to disclose that the first try I got 40 (diff=18) and the third try I got a 57 (diff=35(!)).
Maybe I shouldn’t have waited until the end of the day to try this one.

“Derek the cheater” is correct, as I mentioned earlier in the post. I did the old Print screen to figure it out afterwards also…
Best possible score is 20
Worst possible score is 120.
The test is kind of like the GMAT:
• if you get the questions correct, it continually gives you more difficult scenarios to the point it starts putting in extra circles to throw you off. However, even if you get every single one completely correct, it will not give a score better than 20.
• If you get the questions wrong, it will give you easier ones
DKI, Looks like you’ll have to do a drawing or something to determine your winners.

I’m 56 and scored 20 (difference = 36) on the first try — in fact the only try, why take the chance of running up the score? This seems to be more a test of visual memory than anything else … is that supposed to decay with age?

I am 52 and I scored a 52. 4 numbers was easy. 5 I got better at as it went along. 6 was a mess. But drilling it would probably make one better at it.

Well, apparently the internet has had the ability to prove without a shadow a doubt that I cannot deal with numbers.
I am twenty-one, but scored a 37, 33, and 27 on my three tries. The mean of those is 32 which just gives me an eleven year difference but taking my first attempt (the 37), it’s a 16 year difference. Obviously I should just stick to reading books.

Well, one more trial this morning got it down to 20. So now the diff = 45. I think the difference was having an audience; I was showing off for my wife. But I still made a few mistakes, so yes, there should be a way to get scores under 20. Now, by cracky, back to making buggy whips.
