You missed the biggest effect of prohibition: the massive stimulus it gave organized crime in this country. Wonderful example of the Law of Unintended Consequences.

There are still places in this country that are “dry,” including Moore County, Tenn., home of Lynchburg, where they will let you tour the Jack Daniel’s distillery but they will not allow you to buy or consume the famous whiskey.

Yes, and they’re still using the same tactics, and Prohibition is still not working. Of course, it’s now called “The War on Drugs,” and the Germans and Irish have been replaced by Hispanics and terrorists.
