I also think it would be great if they unretired all those old colors and just made more new ones to even out the numbers. The more shades the better, and not everybody has to buy them. If parents think its too much for the kids, leave them for the artists.

But let's see. in 1990 they released a collector's tin that included them to say goodbye. The same thing happened in 2003 and guess what, they temporarily brought back the first 8 retired colors again. Thistle is very common among old crayons and wasn't included in that tin...

I guess that means they have the means to produce more and they are just holding out on us to get us to buy collector's tins every 10 years. We're about due for tin number 3 pretty soon. We better stock up when it comes out.

I think Purple Mountains Majesty and WIld Blue Yonder are the most fantastic crayon names.

Funny storry, when my now-husband and I were searching for wedding invitations, he kept saying he wanted the ones with the crowns on the front so my future M-I-L and I kept searching and searching but couldn't find crowns. Then he said he was looking for the one with the CRAY-ONs on the front and we found those and used them. :) Added some great whimsy to our day.

I was a Crayola finatic when I was younger. I had the scented ones (most were actually really strong and I sniffed too much and got a headache!), glitter crayons, the "Big Box" that was over 100 colors. It did inlude Mac n Cheese and a bunch of other "new colors" I wish I could remember the rest of the names. I bought my almost 2 year old his first set of crayons a month or so ago and I am excited that he is VERY enthusiastic about coloring!

My grandma must have has OLD crayons when I was little. While I pretty much I remember using all of the retirees, I can't believe "Flesh" was renamed in '62. I was born in '85! That "flesh" crayola was probably worth more than the Muppet Babies coloring book page I used it on.

I was born in 1965 and I was a big Crayola user. I remember using "flesh" as a kid. I also loved carnation pink. It was my favorite crayon. Crayola brand is the best quality wax crayons on the market. They also produce "multicultural" crayons in various skin tones. I teach art and I know that one can still purchase professional art colors in watercolors, acrylic and oils in cerulean blue (think of the pictures of the earth;it's the color of the water) and also Prussian blue. I never thought of the whole "Prussia" thing was much. There's still that town in PA called "King of Prussia." Now, that is odd. Only in America, right?
