His texting record was blown out of the water when Swype was invented for Windows Mobile (now popularized on Android-based phones). The same passage was typed in 25.94 seconds at a speed of approximately 58 WAMs.

Of course, texting is super-impratical compared to the word average of a typical telegraph operator.

It would have been interesting if you had contrasted these fairly worthless examples of typing prowess with someone who did it for a living. Walter B. Gibson who wrote over 300 Shadow novels in 30 years (while also writing the newspaper strips and working on other freelance assignments) wrote approximately 10,000 words a day, and sometimes had to stop between novels because his fingers were bleeding.

but....why?

why did Robert Shields and Les Stewart type all that for so long?

maybe it was a compulsion, because i can't fathom the purpose of it all.

While Les Stanford's achievement is noteworthy, mathematics profesors are probably shaking their heads at the incorrect usage of "and".

Where he says: "Nine hundred and ninety-nine thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine", every occurrence of "and" is incorrect.

When writing or saying numbers, "and" should be used in place of a decimal point, not within the integer itself.

btw, my reCAPTCHA: $62,103.47 amend
