Kara introduced me to an online game several months back, and it’s one of my favorites when I need five or ten minutes of relaxation but can’t get away from the computer. It’s called Boomshine, and is available here. The basic object is to click and form an onscreen dot that connects with the other onscreen dots, which will clear them from the screen. It’s easy to play, but gets rather tricky in the higher levels.
I’ve not yet mastered the game, although I have scored a Boomshine (clearing all the dots) on the final screen. My only theory is to “click where they ain’t, but where they’re headed to.” If you’ve played the game, please let us know any hints you may have discovered. And if you haven’t, well, you’re probably going to hate me for giving you something to waste time with. Sorry ’bout that.
UPDATE: Apologies for the screwy link that appeared earlier this morning… ’tis all fixed now!
Hi Sandy. It looks like yesterday’s brain game is on today’s, and I can’t follow the link. I’ll check back later because this is my favorite time of the day!

Because manholes are round.

Thanks, Mike. Yep, the mentalfloss.com gremlins are at work again, and the posts overlapped. Everything’s fixed now, with the correct link.

Once I start playing that game, I can’t tear myself away from it.
My strategy: Click in an empty space located towards the center of the screen (my theory is that the dots will bounce off the walls and head towards it) that has at least three dots heading towards it at that moment – it’s okay to have to wait for a second if you need to.

Burning question # 666: Why are your links always screwed up?

262… Curse you addictive game!

That’s a good question, Mike. I use IE, but the mentalfloss.com system seems to prefer Firefox. And while I could make an old DOS-based PC spin beautifully, I have a difficult time with the blogging software.
Either that or some evil unknown coworker is going in and sabotaging my posts.
Nah, that’s not it. I’m just stupid.

Damn you Sandy! Just what I need, another addictive distraction. I got through 1-11 pretty easily. On 12 I can get 51, 52, 53, evn 54 a few times. But not 55. Curses!

I’ve played a game that was similar to this on Mindjolt. But in the Mindjolt game the bubbles have numbers and if the bubble pops one with a consecutive number, the bubble pops over a larger area. It’s a bit trickier. YOu can find it at mindjolt.com/games/numbers-reaction

My technique in the higher rounds was to get 2 or 3 of the SLOWEST dots to be near each other and then blow them up.

WOOO HOOOO! 313! boomshined on level 11!

Final score: 253
That last level is hard! Could get 52 or 53 many times but it took a lot of tries before getting that elusive 55!
