Wow, Tama looks just like my pet cat, who is also named Tama! Right down to the orange patches on the front legs. Check out the link in my name for a photo of her (more in the set, too).

I love your heart-warming cat stories & features. I am a cat-lover and have an assortment of 14 cats, most of them rescued as abandoned kittens.

One of these cats--Scarlett (Wellen) is my modern day hero!

She performed one of the bravest acts I've ever seen and she did it FIVE times--rescuing all her babies from an enferno. She was horribly burned but it didn't stop her from saving her kittens!

How many human mothers would do that? So many are irresponsible and do things like leave their children unattended in vehicles, sometimes forgetting them altogether and they die of heat stroke.

Yes, Scarlett was a hero and I hope to meet her one day in Paradise!

Bless your sweet heart, Dear Scarlett!
Your mother loves you and misses you so much!

I had a beautiful female red tabby. I'd meant to adopt a male kitten, but I'd always heard that red tabbies are male, so I didn't look too closely at my new pet! I only realized my mistake when I took the cat to be sterilized, and the vet took one look and said, "Um, I can't neuter this cat."

if you do happen to find a male calico-they're quite often chimeras. it's possible for them to also have Klinefelter's syndrome- having two X's and a Y.
if i'm not mistaken, you can actually fetch a lot of money for a male calico. i don't really want to know what a researcher might do to the poor thing, but it might be some crazy cat collector who wants one as well.

Kellie is generally correct, but there are VERY rare male calico cats. They, unfortunately, are sterile.

Calico Lover is correct. Calicos are generally the female of the red tabby. Red tabbies are mostly, but not exclusively, male. Female red tabbies exist, but are rare. OTOH, all calicos are females, because the gene that makes fur black and the gene that makes fur brown both appear on the X chromosome. So only females (XX) can be calicos.

Last night, our 19-year-old cat attacked and killed his first mouse.
Bastard's on his ninth life, and he finally starts earning his keep.
