Hahaha! I love FOTC. “Space Oddity” is in the book from which I teach guitar – the Vh1′s 100 Greatest book. As yet no kids have requested it though. I guess they’re not old enough to know. It’s also strange to think we can probably rightly classify the music of the 90s as “Classic Rock” now, it having been 20 years or so. I remember in the 90s we were calling the 70s classic rock.

David Bowie and FOTC are two peas in a space-pod. They’re both so far out and over the top (of the world).

I’m with Panthea on this one– Man… or Astroman? definitely deserves a place on this page. So does the album “Jupiter” by the lesser known Cave-In. Amongst others, the song Innuendo and Out the Other is so spacey.

Man or Astroman is awesome but not exactly outer space music- more surf rock with clever bits of campy 50s movie shlock thrown in for fun. same thing rob zombie does but with less repition. lol

OMG. I can’t believe you didn’t include the alien-master himself!

? and the Mysterians. The frontman, ? (yes, it is questionmark), is said to have been influenced by aliens on the spaceship in which he was abducted – They helped him write one of the best garage-band songs ever, 96 Tears.

And the best one ever-Pink Floyd Meddle, well the 24 minute song Echoes from that album. It matches perfectly with the end of 2001 A Space Odyssey. And before you call it crackpot, Pink Floyd was originally going to do the score to 2001.

Ayreon’s The Universal Migrator is an awesome space album. All of their stuff is science fiction related and generally delicious.
