This is straight from Alex’s wonderful Neatorama site. Apparently, China uses these giant hydraulic scissors to cut down earthquake damaged buildings. I’d never heard of them before, but Neatorama has the full specs and explanation here.

These kind of machines are used everywhere for deconstruction. I have seen them in Germany in Holland and Italy. Blowing up stuff is just more expensive then those handy scissors.
