I used to live in Amarillo, and everyone I knew claimed that Marsh was angry at Cadillac for some stupid reason, like new body styles, bad engines, or something. So, as a protest, he planted those Caddies that way. In the 1990's, when Amarillo was moving closer and closer to the Ranch, he moved his cars 3 miles further west. As for the signs, they were STUPID! But, people were paid to put them in their yards. Marsh is either a crazy genius or jsut crazy.

personally, i'd love a stone henge article.

also, it sounds like the signs for wall drug's free ice water are as prevalent as signs for south of the border along i-95. (i live in nc and thus cannot travel south along i-95 without being bombarded by a mileage countdown to the giant sombrero.)

Kelly,

I agree that would be a lovely article. To get you through in the meantime, however, I'll submit my own state's submission to Stone Henge replicas: Car Henge. There are also other car sculptures at the site (officially known as the Car Art Reserve), like a fish and a dinosaur. According to their website, they will consider additional submissions, so, you know, if you're bored...

Car Henge is located in the very sparsely populated western part of Nebraska. However, they recently added a bathroom! So it's got that going for it. And, it's free. Anyway, click on my name to see some pictures.

@erin:
Awesome story about Stan Marsh. I, too, grew up in the Panhandle, but never knew about that. I always loved finding his random signs around Amarillo. :-D

How can you write about the House on the Rock without mentioning "American Gods"!!!

And you call yourselves nerds. For shame.

My family went to the House on the Rock when I was fairly little (maybe 8 or 9) and I still have extremely vivid memories of it. Definitely a highlight in WI!

And when going to Wall drugs make sure you stop by and see Reptile Gardens, the best part was the look on my father's face when he realised there were snakes in the trees above us
