Part of the Lake Placid complex is now a prison. It is outside of the village. The components within the village lines are used for training. The ski jumps are open to tourists during the summer. The observation deck is the best place to see the Adirondack Mountain’s highest peaks. The cross country trails can be ridden with mountain bikes, in the summer.

I’ve been to the one in Barcelona. It is fairly small for an Olympic stadium and doesn’t appear to be used much. Having been there, Atlanta and SLC, it’s amazing how quickly the memory of the games fade. In all of those towns it’s as if they never happened.

BTW the part of the Centennial Olympic stadium in Atlanta to reduce it’s size was transported to the suburbs and is now being used as a High School football stadium (Collins Hill High School).

The venue in which Katarina Witt won her gold medal during the 1984 winter Olympics in Sarajevo was destroyed during the war. She dedicated a very moving program to “Where Have All The Flowers Gone” to the city of Sarajevo for the memories she had of the city.

Those Expos home games weren’t so miserable in the late 70′s and early 80′s when their attendance was in the middle of the pack for the NL. And don’t forget that Montreal was the best team in baseball in 1994 before the strike ended the season.

The misery you’re referring to was primarily post-strike, leading up to the MLB ownership and threats of contraction.

I played basketball in the 1968 Mexico City Olympic basketball stadium 4 years ago. Not sure what else they use it for… it’s a rather large building without a huge amount of seating.

… One of my teammates also checked out the Olympic pool, much to the distain of one of the heavily armed Mexican policemen who was trying to get him to stop. It was a bit tenuous for a few minutes there… but they played it off like there was a language barrier, and as soon as my teammate got out of the pool, the policeman looked relieved… I think HE may have gotten in more trouble for someone being in the pool than the person who actually did it!
