I was experimenting with a Word Ladder recently – where one letter is changed per row, while the others stay in the same order that they were – to run from the word FLOSS to the word BRUSH. I was able to do it in six steps. Can you do better?

  1. I got it in the same # of steps, but used a different word:

    FLOSS
    GLOSS
    GROSS
    GRASS
    BRASS
    BRASH
    BRUSH

  2. FLOSS
    FLOSH
    FLUSH
    BLUSH
    BRUSH

  3. I got it in 4: FLOSS, FLASS, FLASH,

  4. Floss
    ALoss
    ARoss
    ARose
    ARuse
    ARush
    Brush

I made two works instead of one….and Ross is a name but still….

  5. in 4 –

    FLOSS
    FLOSH
    FLUSH
    BLUSH
    BRUSH

(and flosh is a word – a type of silk – its an OK scrabble word too, with two 4 pointers in there)

  6. Here’s one shorter as well.
    Floss
    Gloss
    Glass
    Brass
    Brash
    Brush

  7. Chris, yours doesn’t work because the step from “glass” to “brass” changes two letters at once.

  8. What’s with flosh and flass??

  9. reCaptcha: brass

how fitting for the word ladder.

  10. I got the same ladder:

    FLOSS
    GLOSS
    GLASS
    GRASS
    BRASS
    BRASH
    BRUSH
