Have you ever strolled along outside, serenaded by a lovely song, only to look up and not know to whom you owe thanks for such a sweet sound? Is that a nuthatch you see, or a chickadee? Bunting or sparrow? Let’s see if you can match these familiar birds to their common names.

Take the Quiz: Ordinary Ornithology

  1. 4/10…I’m not a bird watcher. At least I got the oriole right. They would have kicked me out of Baltimore otherwise.

  2. 7/10…woot woot….

  3. Ok, I’m officially a nerd, because not only did I get 10/10, but I knew that it was actually an Eastern Bluebird (as opposed to Western or Mountain), a Northern Mockingbird, an American Robin,Carolina Chicadee, and an American Goldfinch (as opposed to Lesser). Not sure about the Oriole, but I think it is a Bullock’s, not a Baltimore……….

  4. 8/10

Missed Great Egret & Blue Bird. (Easy ones, you’d think.)

I’m an animal lover, always done pretty well with zoology type trivia. I used to have an Audubon book of birds too.

  5. YEEHAH! 10 out of 10!!! Not a full time birder but I love watching and learning about different birds.

  6. 8 out of 10 and I talked myself out of the correct answers for Robin and Mockingbird. Guess I know birds better than I thought.

  7. these are all American birds. Not fair.

Your Robin looks nothing like a Robin found in the Europe, different feathers, different shape and size . . . . .

  8. Ha! Yeah, the first draft I did had a definite east coast bias, so I stuck some west coast birds there. But no international fowl, I do apologize!

  9. Ugh, puns. I got a 60%.

  10. 10/10….

    thanks kid pate!

  11. 10/10…

    thanks kid pate!
