I’m headed to the Minnesota State Fair tomorrow. I will probably try the chocolate bacon, as I’ve had bacon in a chocolate bar and it was delicious.

This year I entered a handknit item into the Creative Activities competition. I could win fame, fortune and up to $12!

I’m an eastern Iowa native. Actually lived there my whole life (25 years) and never once went to the state fair. I did go to the Mississippi Valley Fair a bunch but I’m sure it’s not the same.

Also, The butterfly Garden at Reiman Gardens is pretty awesome. IMO the only thing in Ames worth seeing. God I hate that town (shivers).

I attended the Iowa State Fair last weekend for the first time (first time at a state fair ever!) and I have to comment on the following that you missed:

1. I wanted to do the bungee thing, but my husband was chicken. So I went on the big slide. No big deal, eh? That thing was SCARY! I thought I was going to go airborne at least twice! I guess I’m getting old.

2. Northwest Missouri State University’s booth at the home show. I teach there, but not until then did I realize why some people nickname the school “Southwest Iowa State University”.

3. Food on a stick is not just for carnivores anymore. I had hard boiled egg on a stick, and saw a booth featuring “salad on a stick”.

4. I got to pet the Big Ram, who was the nicest critter there. His owner commented that the bigger rams get, the sweeter their temperament.

5. One word: Snakes. The highlight of the snake display was the label on the Ball Python booth: “Snake on a stick”.

I love the Iowa state fair. I went every year as a kid. I ALWAYS wanted to go to Snakes Alive! but my mom wouldn’t let me.

I lived in Iowa for a few years as a kid. This brought back pleasant childhood memories, thanks!

the last time i went to the Iowa State Fair, the butter lady had made a Butter Last Supper.

hmmmm…maybe i should try to make it back next summer…i can make a pretty ugly cake…without trying too hard.

Mmmm miss that state fair food. Ohio State fair’s fav is always corn on a cob on a stick. And of course the butter cow!!
