Denali, just Denali.
I agree with Ms Upnorth, never heard it referred to as MT Denali and been here almost 30 years. The fact that President McKinley never stepped foot in the state also fuels our opinion that it IS Denali, just Denali.

After reading Denali referred to as “Mt. Denali”, I immediately scrolled down to see how many fellow Alaskans commented on how wrong this was. I’m surprised that I’m only the third.

I have lived in Alaska for more than 20 years and I’ve never heard Denali referred to as “Mt. Denali”. It’s either Denali or Mt. McKinley.

Let’s hear it for Alaskan trivia! Although, in the interest of perfection, we Alaskans don’t call the mountain Mt. Denali. Or at least I’venever met anyone who does. It’s just Denali.

Woo-hoo! I get to live in this great state! Although I live over 200 miles from the Great One, there are a couple of spots where on a clear day I can look out and see Denali. Because it is always covered in snow, it often looks pastel pink or crystal blue depending on the angle of our midnight sun. It takes my breath away every time I see it!

I agree with the other brian. I would rather see us try to protect the legacy of those native to Alaska, than the legacy of a president with no apparent connections to the area (I will freely admit that I only looked at wikipedia to draw that conclusion).

I think this country has done enough in its past to obliterate the natives (Indians, Hawaiians, etc), that I’d rather preserve the legacy of Denali than McKinley.

D-Mac,
Regula represents the district where McKinley grew up. Being from Ohio, I can say that we don’t have much to take pride in, but protecting our many presidents’ legacies is one of them.
