Texans can't claim the moral high ground when it comes to stealing land. Whites settled what was then the northern part of the Mexican state known as Coahuila y Tejas, in order to overrun the local population, steal their land and install slave-based agriculture. When Mexico outlawed slavery, these 19th century pre-Nazis rebelled against the most basic principle of democracy, the right to dominion over one's own body and labor. Remember the Alamo? Yeah, that was about stealing Texas to keep blacks in chains, except the robbers and slavers were the people we would now call "Texans".

Hey, I'm not saying the people who stole present-day New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Nevada and California were any better! If the present-day U.S. Army is willing to subject its opponents to torture and cruelty, in the age of the Internet and the 24-hour news cycle, imagine what the pre-accountability U.S. Army of the 19th century did to General Santa Anna to make him give up all that beautiful, fertile land once they'd captured him.

If Michigan had won the Toledo War, it would have changed the course of Midwest history. First, geographically Toledo would have been Michigan's first port reached from the St. Lawrence Seaway, not Detroit. Toledo would have likely become Michigan's major economic center. The Detroit industrial boom of the 20th Century would have likely never happened. Second, Toledo was the original site for the University of Michigan. With a major sea port, great geographic location and one of the nation's premier universities, Toledo would have likely rivaled Chicago for Midwest superiority by the mid-18th century. Lost in this discussion is that if Michigan would have won it's rightful claim of Toledo. The State of Wisconsin could have used the same Northwest Ordinance to declare it's rightful claim of Chicago.

You forgot the Aroostook war, between the state of Maine and British New Brunswick. The only casualty in that one was a moose. Then there is the recently settled issue of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, between Maine and New Hampshire, which has recently been placed within the city limits of Kittery, Maine, as opposed to Portsmouth, New Hampshire!

Regarding the dispute over the GA/TN border, just because there are no troops at the border does not mean TN isn't armed, loaded and ready. Georgia, keep yer paws off of our water. :)

They don't call us "The Volunteer State" for nothing.

The Treaty of San Ildefonso neglected to draw a border between Texas and Louisiana. The neutral ground remained so until 1819, when Spain and the United States signed the Adams-Onis Treaty. This treaty made the Sabine River the border between Spanish Texas and the state of Louisiana.

I need to add the Mason-Dixon Line, determining the boundries for PA, WV, MD, and DE. Lord Baltimore (the greedy you know what) didn't like the terms of the agreement (even though he signed it). What eventually happend was Cresap's War.

Today, Pennsylvanians has the upper edge in the PSU-Maryland football series. (I kid, I kid).

I'm from SE Michigan and love our UP. Toledo is yet another auto town, but the UP is glorious. Those in the western end of the UP are very "Wisconish" and somewhat looked down upon by the rest of the state. Rooting for the Packers just seems wrong.

At one time, Toledoans could attend Michigan schools at in-state tuition rates and Michiganders (that's what we call ourselves) got the reciprocal treatment at UT.
