Sometimes it takes a while before an actor can hit it big. A long while. Almost every international star and studio darling has suffered their share of humiliating assignments. Let’s see if you remember the unspectacular movies these huge stars anchored before they exploded to superstardom. Can you tell whether Jack Nicholson, Harrison Ford, Dustin Hoffman or Sylvester Stallone honed their skills in the film provided?

Take the Quiz: Before They Were Famous

  1. I am so happy to say that i still have not seen one single Sylvester Stallone movie ever ever ever. And proud of it.

  2. Only 6 out of 10… not so good.

But, somehow, I managed to pick out all the ones w/ Nicholson, so I guess I “DO know Jack!!!”

  3. Well, my score was sad. In my defense, I’m with motorkitty–the ‘yo, Adrienne’ jokes have ruined Sly for me. I have yet to watch a Stallone movie without being coerced.

  4. You can criticize Sylvester Stallone on many levels, but I would not brag about never seeing “Rocky”. That is a classic piece of American cinema, to a lesser extent everyone should see him in “Spy Kids: 3-D”

  5. I got seven out of ten, but mostly on wild guesses so I guess I shouldn’t be too proud…

  6. In an intro to film class my freshman year of college, I gave a presentation on Rocky IV. We were in the ‘American Blockbuster’ chapter, so I thought it was fitting. Apparently, it was not. I got the sense that I was the only person in the class who owned the Rocky boxed set.

  7. Henry Winkler also starred in “The Lords of Flatbush”. I actually went to see this movie when it came out.
    6 out of 10

  8. @ Witty Nickname: I’ve seen it, but I wasn’t happy about watching “Rocky.” That’s what I get for being born in the 80s.

And Jason, you aren’t the only one; my husband has the boxed set, and I think it’s only to annoy me.

    rC: made rivals. Great!!

  9. Wow. 8 out of 10. But all but 2 were SWAGs…so.

  10. How can you call American Graffiti “unspectacular” and being in it a humiliating assignment? Plus, Harrison Ford had an extended cameo in it, he was certainly not the anchor of the movie.

  11. OK, that’s what I get for writing an angry comment before hitting submit and reading the extended answers. Sorry!
