Rick's 1978 solo LPR.I.P. Rick Wright, keyboardist and co-founder of Pink Floyd. He did some great work over the years, much of which you’ve probably never heard, and we’ll miss him. (Yes, I’m a fan.) Here’s a puzzle in his honor that references the title of the band’s most famous album:

Changing one letter at a time, and leaving the others in their original spots, can you transform the word DARK into the word SIDE?

HERE is one solution.

  1. DARK -> DARE -> DIRE -> SIRE -> SIDE

  2. I got the same as elphaba.

  3. Dark – Dank – Sank – Sane – Sine – Side

  4. dark
    dare
    date
    sate
    site
    side

  5. DARK
    DARE
    DIRE
    SIRE
    SIDE

same as Elphaba and gokarm. :)

  6. “There is no dark side of the moon really. As a matter of fact, it’s all dark.”

    - Roger the Hat

  7. There are near and far sides of the moon, though. We never see the far side, but only varying slices of the near side, illuminated by the sun.

  8. DARK
    DARE
    BARE
    BADE
    BIDE
    SIDE

Bade was a stretch, but it works.

  9. In 5 tries, I got:

    DARK
    DIRK
    DIRE
    SIRE
    SIDE

  10. Dark
    Dare
    Dire
    Side

I thought I was the only one who played this game. :-D

  11. Dark, dare, dire, sire, side…

    also…

Dark, dank, dane, dine, sine, side

  12. Yep. I also got:
    DARK
    DARE
    DIRE
    SIRE
    SIDE

“…and if your head explodes with dark fobodings too – I’ll see you on the Dark Side of the Moon”

(Now I’ve gotta go listen to that album)

  13. Dark
    Mark
    Mare
    Mire
    Sire
    Side

  14. I also got Dark, Dare, Dire, Sire, Side.

  15. Apparently I’m the only one who chose

    DARK
    DIRK
    DIRE
    SIRE
    SIDE

a dirk is like a dagger.

  16. You’d think people would learn how to count. Sandy was looking for a solution in four steps (five words total with the starting word). Lesley and D and Dam irez and JenPo and Ed all proposed “solutions” that require 5 steps (6 words total).

  17. how about this, DARK to SIDE to MOON:

    DARK
    DARE
    DIRE
    SIRE
    SIDE
    SILE
    MILE
    MILD
    MOLD
    MOOD
    MOON

  18. DARK
    BARK
    BARE
    BADE
    BIDE
    SIDE
