Ok, that blows my mind that only 20% of the world's population has access to the internet. I mean, really, it's something that I take for granted. (and I'm 26, so it's not like I grew up with it) I have to say, though, I don't necessarily agree with the statement that the web was created "By the West, for the West." I live in China, and while the internet/web is censored here, it is largely accessible, and the average Chinese person uses it regularly. I do think that cell phones will change the way we use the internet/web dramatically.

@Gary, I think that will come with updated coding. Right now, we can read older pages simply because our browsers can still read HTML. There will come a time when browsers won't use that type of coding, and after a period of backwards compatibility, will be incompatible entirely with the new browsers. I personally, hope this won't happen, or that they'll keep the compatibility as an add-on, because I see these older sites as a sort of time capsule of information. Can you imagine how interesting it will be to see these pure-HTML sites of the mid-90's 30 years from now? We can't just wipe away the past.

I'm hoping for greater accessibility in the future. My dream is for world wide wireless access. It's silly that people in rural areas/third world countries get poor access.

Personally, I think that the point will come, someday, when the web needs to be wiped. I don't mean completely erased, more like preened. In thirty years there is going to be alot of information on the internet that is outdated and/or unused. I think that there should be a timing system in place (time stamped web based info) that gets rid on old or unuused information from the internet so that we don't develop alot of "leftover" junk over the course of time. Right now we have this relatively new space that we call the internet and it's all pretty and nice but, if we aren't careful, it could easily turn into a landfill over time.
