BassMan is right when he said that the sightseers would be better off walking. I took a Segway tour last summer. It was one of the worst things I have done. It might be ok if you are an experienced rider but there is no way you can learn to ride a Segway for the first time and also enjoy the scenery. It takes all your concentration to ride the Segway and there is little left for looking around at the sights. One thing that they don’t tell you is that it is actually harder on your feet than walking because you have to stand perfectly still and not move your feet at all to keep your balance. After a few minutes of that your feet are screaming to move.

There’s a common thread between people who lambast the Segway… they’ve never been on one. Many years ago, I was walking around the hotel where I worked when I happened upon a couple of people at the security convention staying there riding Segways around the courtyard. I said good evening to them, and they asked if I wanted to give one of the Segways a ride. I said yes with as much restraint as I could possibly muster. I tried it out, and when you’re on it, the thing is a magic carpet. You just THINK “forward forward forward” and you start to roll forward. Yes, they look silly. But when you’re on one, you realize you’re standing on the sufficiently advanced technology that Arthur C. Clarke said is indistinguishable from magic. They are truly amazing machines.

A doctor at the hospital where I work injured his back a couple years ago & uses a Segway to make his rounds (he had to get special permission) I think the other doctors are jealous LOL
