It is so gratifying to know that she achieved success in her lifetime.

Although I don’t think all women are or even were treated like chattel, it’s clear that Beaux would not have succeeded so well had she tried to juggle the usual duties expected of a woman while working as an artist.

Wow – I had never heard of Beaux before this, either. Thanks for covering her work! It’s interesting how similar her style is to Cassatt… in fact, at first glance, I thought that was a Cassatt work.

maybe the reason she was more successful than other woman of her time is because she had a family that didn’t treat her like chattel.

Thank you for this post. I cannot believe I had never heard of this artist even though I took art history courses in college…..Beaux was an amazing artist.
