When my dad died, I found a VHS tape of Dale Earnhardt's funeral. I haven't watched it, so I don't know if that was something that was broadcast on television or what. A few years ago, I realized that the father of a friend of mine was also a Dale fan and offered him the tape, but he already had it. Go figure.

2) A 1985 Pontiac Sunbird, which my friends and I cleverly dubbed "The Suckbird." It looked OK from the outside (despite being about 12 years old when I purchased it), but the thing was a total money pit. I think I paid $900 for it and after owning it for about six months, I had probably put twice that much into repairs. The transmission went after about a month, it leaked just about every fluid I put into it other than gas, and I used to make everyone in the car lean forward as we went up a hill as if that would give it some kind of magical horsepower boost.

The Suckbird met its sad demise on a crisp October night on the street in front of the house my brother and I were renting. A drunk driver couldn't quite make the bend and instead slammed into the side of my car, pushing it up onto the curb and bending the frame. On the positive note, we did get to meet the transvestite who had been renting the place across the street. He came running out in a bathrobe and slippers, looking quite disheveled and without his wig. He was glad that no one had been hurt because he "didn't want to have to give anyone mouth to mouth."

1. One day when I was about 15, I was in my grandparents spare bedroom (where grandpa slept because he snored). I noticed a stack of magazines that were face down. I looked to see what they were. They were Playboys, that dirty 74 year old man (Hahaha).

2. My worst car was a 78 Buick LeSabre, bought in 1986. It was cheap, and the body was in very good condition, but it was one problem after another (I won't go into listing it all). The last of which was that it got that I couldn't turn the heat off, and the A/C didn't work. When I tried to give it away, two charities said "No thank you!"

p.s. The 1978 LeSabre's were known to catch fire(in engine compartment).

-note to Jenny: when those automatic seatbelts go bad, they are expensive to fix, and the law might say they have to work.

2. Right now I drive a 92 Ford Tempo. It's horrible. It's not a complete clunker, but it gets between 15 and 20 mpg. That's horrible in itself, but especially when you consider that the car I had before it was a Geo Metro that got upwards of 40 mpg! I'm not too fond of the strange knobs and buttons Ford put in: to turn on the headlights, you have to pull out a knob; to turn on the windshield wipers or the air conditioning, you have to twist something. It's all very strange and hard to describe. I'm also not too fond of the automatic seat belts, but they aren't the worst thing.

3. I know you're not talking about bought VHS tapes, but the cartoon Bunnicula tape I have tops all the recorded-off-tv things I have. I don't think my family was much into home videos, because I don't think we have any.

5. Unfortunately for me, all the authors I would be anxious about are dead.

7. The only place in town that I would have wanted to save went out of business before I was born. There was a theatre here called The Vogue that used to play midnight screenings of things and such. They preserved the sign (but not the marquee or the ticket booth) but it's some kind of upscale clothing store now.

1. I did one of those public record searches on someone who used to be involved with a relative of mine but had had some trouble with drugs, etc. I was hoping to find that she was doing better, but instead I was shocked to see that she had been arrested for prostitution (which I'm sure was to pay for the drug habit). It was public information, but I still felt like it was something I probably shouldn't know about unless someone involved decided to tell me about it.

3. I used to tape every episode of Buffy, Angel, Felicity, and Dawson's Creek off the WB when they were on (when I was in high school). Sometimes I would bring them in to school the next day and my friends and I would watch them in the TV room at lunchtime (especially if one or the other of us had missed it), but mostly they just took up room for no reason. This was before DVDs, so I guess I thought I was preserving them for posterity or something.

6. I can't believe people remember the first movie they saw in a theater. I remember going to movies when I was little, but anything before I was about 5 kind of runs together.

7. I have no idea how these places are doing business-wise, but I'll use any opportunity I can to plug Rice & Co., which is an Asian fusion restaurant, and Ethos Vegan Kitchen which, as the name implies, is a vegan restaurant. Both are in Orlando and are sooo good.

Almost forgot...

I agree with Pink Coat. Why are there personal ads on floss? They really don't fit with the rest of the site.

4) A few weekends ago, I was in Wilmington, NC and saw a sign for free wireless in the window at Hooters. Maybe all Hooters have free wireless, but I figure that when most people go there, it's to look at something other than their email.

1) Oy. A veritable anthology of R-rated chat logs from my dad to various teenage gals in India. They sent pictures of themselves; he sent pictures of me (his at the time 23-year-old son). I wonder if they have "To Catch a Predator" in Mumbai...

3) Game 7 of the 1991 World Series. I still get chills when a pile of white pixels that looks like Kent Hrbek turns the 3-2-3 double play. "Out there... OUT THERE!"

4) This uber-skeevy nightclub called 1120 in Birmingham. It's on all the time, and it's powerful enough to reach the Starbucks a block away.

My first car was a VW bug. I don't remember the year, but I do remember that my best friend had to sit behind me in the back seat to keep it from shaking. I had some type of wrench device clamped to the window so that I could get the window down. No A/C of course. No heat either, so we kept a couple blankets with us at all times. The funny thing is, we had a rare "blizzard" and that bug was one fo the few that would start and make its way through the snow!

First movie: Benji when I was 7

No car I owned could be classified as crappy in my opinion. They all got me from one point to another which is all I could ever want from them.
