		<description>noticed recently that some earlier Criterion DVDs have *interlaced* video! what? Rififi, 8 1/2--why would they make interlaced versions of these?

anyway, much as I respect, love, and suck up to them, it&#039;s pleasing to think of just how much farther they can go.

once Blu-Ray is old hat, they can go to some kind of insane 4,000 line resolution that surpasses the resolution of the original film stock--and that of the human eye.

at some point it will be cool to re-insert film grain just like a bit of pink noise on recordings recreates that LP warmth.</description>

		<description>I do have to say that, thanks to Criterion, we film buffs are able to see old films that look better today than the they looked in the theaters when they came out.

Sometimes, though, I am disappointed with their selections.  I know some people who will watch any movie Criterion puts out.  Like I said, I&#039;m rarely disappointed with the image quality, but sometimes the quality of the film itself leaves something to be desired.

And why the hell haven&#039;t they released any Guy Maddin films?  What&#039;s wrong with them?</description>
