This is Fascinating & I too would like to find one of the Blanks just for the Fun of it . I have a friend who is an avid coin collector . I will be passing this article on to him .I am just a dabbler . But I had British Grandparents
so I knew about & maybe still have some of the Big Pennies.
Aren’t some old chinese coins ,now popular as jewelry , made with the Hole in the middle ? I think that’s a very sensible idea. I once lived next door to a plumber who frequnetly used Copper pannies as washers because they were Much Cheaper & worked better in plumbing than the ones he got at the plumbing supply place . The coin I have always wanted is a Doubloon .Just because of the romance of them .

I WAS TOLD THAT IN 1943, SOME COPPER PENNIES WERE MINTED, ARE VERY RARE AND STILL OUT THERE! I WAS TOLD THE VALUE FOR JUST ONE OF THESE PENNIES CAN FETCH UP TO $200,000.00. SO EVERYONE KEEP AN EYE OUT, 1943 COPPER, WHEAT ON REVERSE SIDE.

I’m glad you’re putting the responsibility for the fraudulent alterations of the 1883 V nickel exactly where it should be. If Edison hadn’t invented the light bulb in 1879, all those light bulbs would not have gone off over the heads of con men in 1883. I still resent Edison because of his actions against Tesla and for being associated with Con Edison.

I’m glad you’re placing the blame for the fraudulent altering of the V nickles squarely where it should be. Light bulbs could not have gone off over the heads of con men in 1883 if Thomas Edison hadn’t invented the light bulb in 1879.

How can you mention the “Racketeer Nickel” without mentioning 10,000% Tatum, the “Geniune Counterfeiter” (see link below)?

While he was one of many who counterfeited, he actually was acquitted of the charge of counterfeiting. First, there was no law against gold-plating coins. Second, he never purchased anything that cost more than 5 cents with them. Third, he was a deaf mute, and had no easy way to communicate to the shop keeper that it was a nickel, not a 5-dollar coin.
