It's strange that in a lot of these cases, all muscles are unable to move except for the eyes. Hmmmmm.

This is sooo scary. I agree with Mr. Chishome--I would never wish this on my worst enemy. Super scary. I knew someone who died of ALS, and it scared the daylights out of me... they thought his might be due to a surgery he had, although I'm not sure how true that is. Anyway, I'm been petrified to have surgery ever since... worked myself into a panic attack when I had to have my gallbladder removed...

Watching The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, I couldn't help thinking Morse Code would have been much faster than reciting the alphabet and waiting to blink until she got to the right letter.

@PartiallyDeflected:

While the Terry Schiavo case was indeed a sad tale, it was later found in her autopsy that she HAD suffered severe brain damage. From her Wikipedia page: "Examination of Schiavo’s nervous system by neuropathologist Stephen J. Nelson, M.D., revealed extensive injury. The brain itself weighed only 615 g, only half the weight expected for a female of her age, height, and weight, an effect caused by the loss of a massive amount of neurons. Microscopic examination revealed extensive damage to nearly all brain regions, including the cerebral cortex, the thalami, the basal ganglia, the hippocampus, the cerebellum, and the midbrain."
