Galileo Mobility Instruments developed a system of movement for all terrains. The resulting products range from wheelchairs to farm and construction vehicles to military and rescue robots.
The system combines wheels with tracks (such as you see on a tank). Wheels offer greater speed and maneuverability, while tracks can run over objects that would prove impossible for wheels. Like stairs.
*
A rule of thumb for the wheel is that it can climb an obstacle that is 50% of its diameter. Galileo’s Wheel can overcome obstacles that are 85% of its diameter in wheel mode and 200% in track mode.
*
It only takes an instant to switch from wheel to track mode, and back again. The way the Galileo Wheel moves from one mode to the other will impress you, or even make you laugh!
Of course, the above is even better when you play Yakety Sax behind it.
Um…doesn’t that look quite a bit like Wall-E?

That’s pretty cool! I love the fact that it can climb a ladder. Very impressive. And Katie, it only looks like Wall-E because it’s yellow and has two wheels/tracks. Other than that, it looks nothing like Wall-E
