I thought Phil Collins’ recent divorce was up near McCartney’s to get him in the Runner Up list. Actually the dollar total of two of his marriages would rank him in the top 10 (I think)

McCaw can afford it,he’s worth about $2.5 billion (as of now, that is). One of his former companies, McCaw Cellular, was sold to ATT. Eventually, that company came to be known as Cingular Wireless.

He and his brother also founded NEXTLINK, which merged with the ill-fated XO Communications. He didn’t suffer much from that debacle and later founded Clearwire which, I believe, just signed an agreement with Sprint to offer WiMax.

When it comes to telecom, McCaw has the Midas touch. Of course, it didn’t hurt that he inherited a cable TV company from his dad. But hey, ya’ gotta’ start somewhere.
