Great story! I love freerice.com. I get to slack off at work, but still feel productive (even more so, usually).

I'm a Kiva lender and I love it! It's so much nicer than charity. It's a help-out rather than a hand-out and I can keep reinvesting my money and help a whole lot of people with the same initial investment.

Ha! Thanks BassMan. And as for the picture sizes, I agree that they're too small, but I didn't want to tax the server. If you click on the Ads of the World page, and look up Ambient ads for social causes, you should be able to see all of these, and dozens more. I'll try to alter the pics to click straight over for you.

Agreed with Troy. The pictures are too small.

It's sad how much poverty there is in this country alone. I had a friend recently who, under no fault of his own (he got sick), became destitute for awhile. He tried to get assistance, but all the charities he tried refused to help unless you fit their really strict criteria, and churches refused to give money. (One church had a representative come over there and told him - his place had no furniture or appliances, all of it was sold, and no electricity - and told him to sell his books for food.) He tried to get into a shelter (because, with no electric, his home was too hot), but all of them required money up front and had long waiting list. He tried to get to a food bank (he had been eating one peanut butter sandwich a day by that point), but he had to go on a long waiting list as well. He tried soup kitchens, but they wouldn't take his out of state ID. He tried getting jobs around the area, but not even fast food restaurants would hire him (even though he had no criminal background and a fairly decent credit history). Luckily, his kids were with their grandparents, because like he pointed out, they couldn't have survived like that. How can we let this happen in a country like ours? He was living in a place I owned (I couldn't give much more, considering I'm also disabled and cannot work), that's why he at least had a place to stay.

It's great these campaigns highlight such a key issue. These programs need, not only money, but volunteers as well.

A noble cause. I appreciate you bringing attention to it. As economic instability increases so will homelessness.

On a lighter note I love how you've misspelled Peruvian is Pervian! You perv.

Why are all of the pictures on this site always so small? It's one thing if it's a generic post about a dog, but when the story is about the pictures you should at least have the pictures link to larger versions we can see, no?

Just a thought.

"I wish our politicians could be as clever! LOL "

Lord help us if our politicians get this clever! Go to your local food bank and you will have a picture of McCain stealing food from a crying child, and drive past a federal building and you will see the image of Obama holding dynamite.

No, I prefer my politicians to not be creative.

Now this is how you bring attention to a cause. Thought provoking, attention getting, and all without being offensive.
