"Do you hate your father?" is one of the lines used most often on teenage drifters since it is almost an universal truism amoung them an it helps to build trust with the manipulator.

I grew up about a mile from Spahn ranch but that was long after the family was there (and it had already burned down). But, my dad grew up in the area and went to high school in chatsworth at the time. Apparently the family would hang out around town and harass people. Growing up I always had an irrational fear that the family would escape and come back to chatsworth. If you go to the area of Spahn ranch there are still weird drawings on rocks and in caves that people claim to be from the family.

This is a great series; I look forward to reading your next blog. If he hasn’t already been covered, you should do one about Armin Meiwes. Very Interesting case.

Actually, it was George Spahn who used to pinch Lyn's thigh and make her squeal. He started calling her "Squeaky" and the name caught on.

Have you read Dave McGowan's series about Laurel Canyon?

It's called: Inside The LC: The Strange but Mostly True Story of Laurel Canyon and the Birth of the Hippie Generation.

Very interesting connections between Hippies and Military intelligence.
