Very cool. When I was younger and used to go into NYC a lot, I had a map of the NYC subway system on my bedroom wall. Now I know where the idea came from. I still have a miniature copy of the map that I bring with me when I go to the city. It makes it look like I know what I’m doing. ;-)

As a mapmaker, I’ve encountered Beck’s Underground map many times and I’m always inspired by the “outside looking in” aspect of his creation. His ability to visually convey only the information that was needed in the best possible way – by disregarding that which wasn’t important – is a really amazing feat of design. I love it.

Great post! I did a semester abroad in London and one of the things I always rave about is the Tube. And I will never get the phrase, ” Mind the Gap” out of my head!
