While I am a democrat, and voted for Obama, I am very much against America's "free press" from endorsing political candidates. I think it puts a dent in the detachment reporters and the press should have (case in point with LA Times).

Where I work (USPS) I could lose my job for endorsing a candidate while at work or in uniform. Sure makes things peaceful around here right now.

In my opinion, I think newspapers should stick to reporting the facts and not trying to sway public opinion with what they think is the right candidate.

I personally hate election time. I know it's important and all, but it really makes nerves tense and a lot of relationships sour. My boss is a big supporter of one of the candidates (I won't say which) and he is constantly coming in and complaining about what ludicrous things the other party's candidate has done on that day or the previous evening. I don't actually agree with him on all counts so it makes it tough. Politics in the workplace? Not a good thing either.

Also endorsing a Democrat for the first time- The Chicago Tribune, though that wasn't too surprising given the tenor of the editorial board lately.
