This weekend, the Birmingham crew spent two beautiful afternoons at Alabama’s Moss Rock Art Festival, spreading the mental_floss love. We met some hard core fans and answered the question “So what exactly is mental_floss?” more times than we can count. Between the holiday gift guide and our selection of t-shirts, none of our visitors walked away empty-handed.
MF co-founder/president Will Pearson also completed a very important business transaction with the Frog Prince, the details of which will probably be revealed in a tell-all book in the near future.
Thanks to everyone who came out and spent time with us! Now that we’ve perfected our pitches, we’ll be taking this show on the road – coming soon to a truck stop, flea market, or folk art festival near you.
When not working the flea market circuit, Terri Dann is a mental_floss designer.
to my amazement, you guys are at moss rock and there is NO winslow to be found. was he competing? i ask that rhetorically as he works like a dog and never climbs any more.

Very cool to you see you guys out there Sunday. However, I did have a hard time explaining to the girl I was with that I actually do work during the day and don’t just surf your website.

I want to know more about this. Were we the only magazine there? Were people buying t-shirts? Why is there a man in a frog suit? (And why couldn’t you get him to put on the ‘Natural Selection’ t-shirt?)

All good questions! No, there were several other Birmingham-based magazines there, but we were the only one selling fun swag.
Yes, we sold a bunch of tees. We had a poster of 20 tshirt options by the table, and had a lot of fun watching people point and read their favorites out loud to their companions. I had to explain what the Fibonacci sequence was about 15 times. We had to explain the Rhesus shirt twice.
Will says we had more interest in the magazine and sold more shirts on Sunday than Saturday. This may be because Auburn and Alabama were both playing Saturday, and football is way more important than art around here.
Shockingly, the gentleman in the frog suit was not the weirdest fan we had. Watching him do his frog suit dance was potentially the highlight of Saturday afternoon.
Winslow will have to report from Sunday …

That’s great! Will you come all the way to New Zealand? :)

Or would you consider Houston? (way more do-able than New Zealand!) :)

I second the vote for Houston.

Well, since we’re voting today, my vote is for Omaha… :)
Question: When do we find out the t-shirt winners for the economy crisis t-shirt slogan contest? It sounds like I made up the name of the contest, but you know the one though. I’m actually pretty excited about potentially purchasing a flossy t-shirt with the winner’s slogan.
