It seems that the Brady kids – Greg, Marcia, Peter, Jan, Bobby & Cindy (oldest to youngest) – can’t seem to agree on the order in which they should share the bathroom before school each morning. To help solve the problem, housekeeper Alice placed six billiard balls (numbered 1 through 6) into a black cloth bag, and allowed each Brady youth to pick one out, thus establishing a “batting order.” The one who chose #1 got to go first, #2 second, and so on.
Based on the following clues, can you determine the order in which the kids will perform their morning toilette?
1. Bobby’s number is exactly equal to Marcia’s number times two.
2. Cindy’s number is smaller than Greg’s, but larger than Peter’s.
3. The two oldest girls had even numbers.
HERE is the solution.
Great puzzle. I think you need to clarify your second point though– I took this to mean that Peter had 5 and Greg 1, not that Peter went before Cindy.

That was fun!! I agree with Craig, however, I interpreted Cindy’s “higher” number to mean a larger number, worse bathroom position.

I agree with Craig’s comment.
If Cindy’s number was higher than Greg’s, I think that he would have to be 1 if she is 3.

I agree with everyone else–I had Greg and Peter reversed because Cindy (3) was higher than Greg and lower than Peter…

You’re right, folks. I changed the text from “higher” and “lower” to “larger” and “smaller” to clarify that we’re talking about the number, not the order. Thanks!

Why does poor Jan always get the short end of the stick? And while we’re on it, if Mike Brady was such a great architect, why was there only one bathroom for six kids??

I did the same ‘Peter/Greg’ mixup. Aside from that, fun!
Jan will be so upset she has to go last – you know she has a date with George Glass today!
Amy D — Given personal details, I can’t figure out how Mike Brady made 3 kids :) Maybe it was before he changed teams.

I believe the correct order is actually Peter, Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!, Cindy, Bobby, Greg, Jan. Thought I should point that out.

Yea, I got the same thing, ESJ. I love puzzles like this… I even drew out the “grid” usally used in logic puzzles.

I think it’s funny that Jan’s the only kid who didn’t get mentioned by name in the clues.
