He suffered from a skin disease that was alleviated by soaking in a medicinal tub. His killer was seeking political revenge and she was sent to the guillotine 4 days later. A famous painting by Jacques-Louis David, The Death of Marat, depicts his tragic end.

Interesting article. And my personal favorite bathtub death would be Jean Paul Marat at the hands of Charlotte Corday. As if he didn’t have enough troubles with the boils covering his body. :-)
