Though many of us Cape Bretoners complain there is nothing for us on this island (meaning we lack the urban experiences of larger cities) we are very lucky to enjoy large and vast areas of nature. There are trails everywhere to walk, ride, hike, run or let your dogs and kids loose to roam.

Shasta, I also love Earth 2. It was a great show... it had the guy who plays Mr. Crabs in it!

As a teenager, I agree that many of my generation really lack outdoors stuff. I've been lucky enough to have gone on several hiking/canoeing trips with my family, but I know many people who don't.

Nature - that's why we love Wellington so very much. When the city was founded in the 1800s, green spaces all around the city were set aside as land never to be developed. We live near one of the 'green belts' and it is great to be able to be in a forest within a few minutes walk.

Sounds like the premise of the 1993-1994 tv series "Earth 2." Kids on space stations were dying from the "Syndrome," which was being linked to a lack of "earth" and nature. That's why they had to find another planet to try to live on. Yes, I am a nerd.

My baby daughter has had an affinity with being outside since she was born. She often cries when we return to the inside. I made some corny jokes about her being a park ranger when she gets older only to find out a lot of babies enjoy the outdoors. I wonder if it is a instinctional response to prefer nature?
