Brain Game: No, It’s Not 573
by Sandy Wood - November 11, 2008 - 7:30 AM

THE ANSWER:

THREE.

The number represents the number of times the letter “E” appears in the spelled-out numbers 1, 2, 3, etc. The next number in the series is ELEVEN, which contains 3 E’s.

  1. Yeah you may want to try DeCaf or at least the new light coffee (1/2 DeCaf). Hope you enjoy the snow.

  2. 3! Good one. Somehow, my brain stumbled on to the spelling rather quicly — from there, it was only a brief matter of time until I hit ‘E’

  3. Binary:
    10=2
    010=2
    111=7
    1,0,2,0,1,0,2,1,1,1,7
    Oh well, I guess I need another cup o java.

  4. I think I need more coffee, because I still don’t get it. “one” has one “e” in it, and so does “zero,” and “two” has none. So I don’t get how you can do 1, 0, 2, 0…

    I get the last four numbers, but the first few confuse me.

  5. AH! Never mind. The caffeine kicked in. I’m on board now.

  6. I have just recently discovered the Brain Game and have enjoyed them immensely. Keep them coming.

  7. Yay for youth and not needing caffeine all night! (I say as I slowly fall asleep finishing a chem lab)

  8. Number of Es–onE, two, thrEE, four, fivE,

  9. So next is ElEvEn, 3.

  10. Why would it be 573?
