I didn't notice there was a question here. Roland is all over the place. You can read a great piece on him in the New York Times from a couple years ago or go to the website for his Harvard institute. For the more scholarly, check out MIT Press Journals and search his name for things like Understanding the Black-White Test Score Gap in the First Two Years of School The Causes and Consequences of Distinctively Black Names An Economic Analysis of Acting White A Google Scholar search should turn up most of his major works as well - at least through 2007. Research shows that kids do better in school when their family gets involved in their learning. If mom has a vested interest in Sally's math grade, everyone benefits. Kudos to Roland Fryer for stepping into territory that others may deem too controversial. It’s not just incentive for the kids, but for their families. I think anything that will get kids learning is worth a chance. Most kids are just little blobs that obsorb knowledge easily but some need more encouragement. Once they start though, they are more likely to continue the trend. I’ve read about the money for grades concept and find it very interesting. While he himself is evidence of the foolishness of of any 'inferior race' theories, i applaud him for looking at genetics and social behavior as factors in such a self propagating situation. With any luck he wont be crucified by his own race and can figure out a way to help those caught in this cycle.
