I’m surprised you didn’t mention Dr. John Gorrie, who invented the first ice machine in 1850. He was mainly interested in making ice cheaply to control the fever of yellow fever patients. You can visit the Gorrie Museum in Apalchicola, FL.

I didn’t realize that there was frozen shipping technology in the early 1800s. Or did they just ship it normally and hope enough didn’t melt?
