		<description>I&#039;m surprised you didn&#039;t mention Dr. John Gorrie, who invented the first ice machine in 1850.  He was mainly interested in making ice cheaply to control the fever of yellow fever patients.  You can visit the Gorrie Museum in Apalchicola, FL.</description>
