One of the docents at the Buffalo, NY zoo tells of how one of their mountain goats repeatedly escaped his "simulated mountain" enclosure, which was surrounded by a moat. He would apparently run around the mountain in circles, then leap across the moat and the fence and land on the public walkway, where the keepers would find him in the morning. The solution? Feed him more, so his added weight prevented him from launching himself.

I actually WATCHED a monkey escape at teh zoo in Atlanta when I was a mere 6th grader doing scientific observations for a class. I still remember my friend next to me saying, "Umm, should that monkey be back there?" as the colobus ran behind our mona monkey enclosure.

There had been a tornado the previous weekend which had apparently knocked a hole in the monkey enclosure.

Can you imagine witnessing a 300 lb bear gleefully riding the merry-go-round? I know bears don't smile, but I can't help but picture him beaming, with a dripping ice cream cone clutched in one paw.

"...so they did what any reasonable, considerate human beings would do: they dumped Reggie in an urban lake..."

Well, if you believe the stories about people who flush baby alligators down the toilet, then I guess they were pretty responsible!
(*NOTE* excessive sarcasm present in the above statement)
