@Chelsea

That sounds really familiar. Maybe I saw it when I was a kid?

My grandfather was an avid stamp collector. After his death five years ago I got the job of going through his collection. He had the standard books full of stamps, but most of it was sheets in glassine envelopes. For some reason, he had up to a dozen copies of each sheet. If you took the stamps at face value, there's probably thousands of dollars in stamps. He had almost every stamp printed between 1955 and his death.

The collection still hasn't been sold, but it's probably worth a lot.

Slightly off topic, does anyone remember the movie Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveler, about a boy and his friends who travel the world by riding on magic postage stamps? What was really cool about it was that the riders would be painted into the stamp, so they needed to have something to ride on, like the prow of a ship or a kangaroo pouch.

Correction: In section 3 (The Stamp Even Bill Gates Couldn’t Afford), you say the stamp pictured cost 15 million marks. This is incorrect. The stamp pictured is worth 20 billion marks -- the price quoted in the last sentence in the first paragraph. ("Milliarden" in German means, confusingly, "billion.")
