What about Robert Todd Lincoln? He was secretary of war under both presidents Garfield and Arthur. And he was a harbinger of death- he was nearby or present at the assassinations of presidents Lincoln (his father), Garfield, and McKinley as well as New York mayor William Jay Gaynor (just an attempt if I recall correctly).

There was a great quote attributed to Alice Roosevelt: "If you don't have anything nice to say, come sit by me."

Alice Roosevelt (after whom the color Alice Blue is named) was a handful when she was younger. TR once said he could run the country or he could control Alice but he couldn't do both.

Small error-very small error. You say Martin Van Buren was a "future president" when he ran with Adams in 1848. At that time Van Buren was actually an "ex-president" as he served a term as president from 1837-1841.

I'm most fascinated however with Woodrow Wilson's eldest daughter Margaret. She served as first lady after her mother's death. In the 30's she came across the work of an Indian guru named Aurobindo and joined his ashram there. She lived there for the remainder of her life.
