The San Jose Sharks lost 71 out of 82 games during the 92-93 season, an NHL record.

The next season they improved in the standings by 58 points to make the playoffs. A record for the biggest improvement in consecutive seasons.

i knew the cardinals were awful, but it hurts to see the home team dubbed one of history's greatest losers. fingers crossed, this is our year :) ...and if not, at least we scored a nice stadium out of the team.

Then you have to consider the Kansas City Athletics.

From 1955 to 1967 the KC A's never finished above 7th place (and then, only after the league expanded to from 8 to 10 teams). No baseball team has ever lost as many games or finished so low in the standings in any 13-year stretch as the Kansas City Athletics.

They often had good players (most notably, Roger Maris) but always traded them to the New York Yankees and, sometimes, to immortality.

That last year, 1967, was the worst. A bunch of kids including Catfish Hunter, Blue Moon Odem, Reggie Jackson... turned into the Big Green Machine in Oakland during the 1970s.

The University of Toronto football team went more than 7 seasons without winning a game and hold the Canadian University record for longest losing streak, at 49 games.

This one might be unfair, but Billy Casper was a terrific golfer who won a lot of tournaments. He however offers no majors. Of course, playing against Jack is unfair.

What about the all time, professional-sports-leading losers, The Philadelphia Phillies. We have somewhere over 10,000 losses. Something to take into consideration is how long we have been a team and how many baseball games are played in a season. But still, we are the world ---ing champions.
