Even before I work out (on the way to the gym or while I’m changing) I have a few pump up songs:
“Hand in the Sky (Big Shot)” – Straylight Run
“Carmina Buarana”
“And the Wicked Burnt Black” – As Tall As Lions
“Paper Planes” – MIA
“Seven” – Sunny Day Real Estate
Mostly stuff that starts out slow and then builds up to the point that I’m full of energy.

Then when I actually start to work out I’ll throw on an old-school Punk playlist with a few more recent tracks.

Great post – I’m always looking for new songs to place on my running playlist and there were some good ones listed. Fall Out Boy, Linkin Park, Kanye West and The Killers show up frequently. Right now my go-to songs would be:

When I work out I want hard hitting tunes, to help get the blood pumping. Anything with a strong drum beat, played at the right tempo works.

I have no real right to say anything on this topic since it’s been a looooooooong time since I’ve done any good exercise, but there ARE songs that I simply cannot sit still through — hopefully not freaking out my fellow drivers too much as I do my carseat aerobics!

Most of the album Psychopathia Sexualis by the Makers, particularly “(Are You on the Inside or the Outside of Your) Pants” and “Sharp Leather Walkin’ Shoes”, are excellent workout music. I have yet to convince anyone of this, despite prior efforts, but thought I’d give it a go here.
