The district of criminals is far and away more corrupt than Ponzi but you don’t see them doing time. What’s wrong with this picture?

Just reading the description of the scheme (“However, since so much money was flowing in from new investors, he could just pay off the returns for the old ones from the new cash”) immediately made me think of so-called Social Security.
Somehow we can’t imagine it as a scheme when the government does it to us…

On January 28, 2010 a Du Page County, Illinois Judge ordered Craig Gutowsky, 42, of the 19 the block of Montclair Court, Cary Illinois held in lieu of $150, 000 dollars bail. A grand jury indictment has charged Gutowsky with theft, securities fraud, fraud and selling securities without registering. Craig Gutowsky is out on bail and awaiting trialselling used luxury automobiles at Elite Motors Mundelein , Illinois. Gutowsky, if convicted on just one of the seven felonies charged with, could find himself in prison for 14 years. Renee Gutowsky has not yet been charged.

Damn, someone beat me to comparing Ponzi scheme’s to federal government dealings. But that person didn’t mention that The Federal Reserve (which is NOT part of the federal government,)actually creates money OUT OF NOTHING. It then LOANS this “money” to our government to “bail out” banks, ie. the people who run the federal reserve, and then expects to be paid INTEREST from US TAXPAYERS. Think about that next time you use your hard-earned paycheck to buy a goddamn mocha latte.

Only $50 billion? Then it’s not the largest Ponzi scheme in history. Much more money than that has been paid into the largest Ponzi scheme in history, Social Security.
