A few months ago, I saw Mental Floss on a list of the most popular boat names. Since I don’t spend much time at sea, I have not been able to verify this. But on Wednesday, reader/dentist John Tullner proved there’s at least one Mental Floss out there. Dr. Tullner of Kilmarnock, Virginia, sent us a picture of his boat on the Chesapeake Bay.
If you choose to name your vessel after our publication (or, as in John’s case, you named your boat Mental Floss long before ever hearing about the magazine), send us a photo and we’ll be happy to slap it up here on the blog. If you name a non-aquatic vehicle Mental Floss and send in photos, we’ll evaluate those on a case-by-case basis.
Is there a reason boats like the name Mental Floss that I’m missing? Some old timie nautical term perhaps?

That’s awesome, I just transferred from a small little town called Dahlgren, which was about an hour or so north of Kilmarnock, I always saw the signs and wanted to go visit since it sounded Irish.
As far as nautical theme, never seen/heard of boats being called that. I’m in the Navy, so I’ve been around ships for a few years.

I actually saw this boat on a trailer on the highway here. I seriously thought to myself “Hey! Is there some promo going on for Mental Floss?” Now I know the answer.
