You probably recall the most famous reindeer of all, but can you name all nine of Santa’s reindeer (from the song)? Let’s put two minutes on the clock and find out.

Take the Quiz: Name Santa’s Reindeer

Comments (21)
  1. 27 seconds.

  2. 13 Seconds! I didn’t think I could type that fast. :0)

  3. 14 seconds

  4. 26 seconds.

  5. I noticed a small error in the quiz. The seventh reindeer is not always named Donner. Actually, he was originally named Dunder. The name then morphed into Donder. Only a few publications use the name Donner. I noticed why Donder was not working after some time, but I do think it would be more fair if all three options (Dunder, Donder, and Donner) were acceptable.

  6. 12 Seconds!

    Not bad for a Jew.

    (Captcha = time insane)

  7. I agree with Michaela. I would have posted a better time if all 3 would have been an option.

  8. I need typing lessons. 21 seconds.

  9. 7 seconds! Yay Christmas!

  10. I’m so ashamed of myself, I had a complete brain fart and couldn’t remember Dancer or Prancer

  11. Easy peasy. I also agree with Michaela on the Donder/Donner thing.

  12. 15 seconds!! And I even typed “Donder” first, then had to re-type “Donner”.

That was fun. A nice easy quiz to get me even more into the Xmas spirit. :)

I don’t normally advertise my reCaptcha, but this time I must:
    pub Deering

  13. I typed all eight with commas–that wasn’t the way to do it. I typed all eight and hit “enter” and that didn’t work either. How are you supposed to answer this?

  14. 16 seconds. Would’ve been less if my typing skills were better.

  15. 5/9 – ran out of time

  16. Deniuse: “Refresh” the quiz. It should automatically accept the names after you’ve finished typing the last letter, if it’s spelled correctly.

  17. ‘donner und blitzen’ is German for ‘thunder and lightning’… there never was a ‘Dunder’, believe me.

Oh… 17 seconds. Much slower without ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas’ going through my head… I have to type them in order, Rudolph first (the one invented in 1939).

  18. Sorry, Steve, but I have proof from this site That Dunder existed.

“The tradition become part of our folklore with the publication of A Visit from St. Nicholas by Clement C. Moore in 1823 (better known today as Twas the Night Before Christmas). This poem named the standard 8 tiny reindeer. They were named Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder, and Blixen. In the 1823 newspaper version of the poem, the spelling Blixem was used, although it was changed to Blitzen when Moore published the poem under his own name. The spelling of the original Dunder was changed to Donder and then to Donner in some modern versions.”

Taken from the article “Rudolph, and Santa’s 27 other Reindeer”

Also, my friends and I got in a whole fight over the name of the 7th reindeer. The German kid there had the same arguement as you.

  19. 11 seconds!! I recited the beginning of the song. Love this quiz!

  20. I was a bit confused by this. Rudolph is not one of the reindeer.
And the original spelling of “Donner” is indeed Dunder, as this poem originates from dutch. Also, it’s Blixem, not Blitzen.

Read “A Visit From St. Nicholas” for the correct answer.

Floss staffers should actually earn their income by doing a little research.

  21. Elih, did you read the instructions? “Can you name all nine of Santa’s reindeer (from the song)?”

You sound like you’d be great fun at holiday parties. Bah humbug.
