I’ve never had Epoisses, but I’ve had both Brie and Roquefort, and I like Roquefort better. There’s a German restaurant in my area that makes a Roquefort dressing, and it’s so worth the extra $1.95 or so. “It’s a sweeter bleu cheese” is how they describe it. Amazing!!

However, I’m extremely partial to gorgonzola and feta, too.

i agree, brie is clearly the king of cheeses. though sometimes i like to slum it and go pepper jack… yum.

When I was young and lived in Queens, some 40 years ago, there was a store that sold only cheese. I don’t know if stores that sell only cheese still exist. I remember so well how the smell, when my mother took me there, used to choke me half to death. Looking back, I can’t imagine what it takes to enter a store that has wheels and bricks and logs of dozens of different types of chese from all over the world…and survive. What thick air that was!!

Every time Mental Floss does a piece about cheese, the owners of my favourite deli jump into the air and give each other high-fives, because they know I’m going to be drooling all over the cheese case before the end of the day. The recession will not touch them if you continue to mention cheese, marvellous cheese.

A “desert” without cheese? I know when it’s 114 and I’m parched, there’s nothing I want more than a big hunk of cheese or a cycloptic Venus.

Of course, “dessert” without cheese is a travesty and a sham and a mockery — it’s a traveshamockery.
