  1. Wow, I’m 0 for 12!
But I haven’t watched TV since the early ’90s so what do I know?

I was hoping to see some mention of a great little show called ‘Frank’s Place’ from the early ’90s.
It was 1/2 hour like a sitcom, but it wasn’t simple minded and had no laugh track or bathroom humor.
Tim Ried (of WKRP) starred as the NY lawyer son of a New Orleans bar owner. He came back to run the bar when his father died. The bar was frequented by a cast of quirky characters. Think Northern Exposure.

  2. Nice quiz…..but you failed to mention anything about Family Guy. FG was cancelled, only to be revived after DVD sales went through the roof – making it one of the only shows given a second life after cancellation. I know this because I have watched the show from day one and was addicted the first time I saw it (its nice getting in on the ground floor). Personally, I love the show and feel like it is one of the funniest shows on Television (maybe even in TV history). I know the show is a little low brow for most MentalFloss readers, but I can honestly say I have never laughed so hard as I have when watching Family Guy. And being a 36 yeard old guy, I am not what you would call their ‘target demographic’.

  3. Haha. Cancelled. Somebody call CHOLA. :)

  4. Not to be picky or anything (so unlike me…), but isn’t it “canceled”?

  5. I loved ‘Pushing Daisies’… I was like a Tim Burton Movie and a Rohl Dahl book all rolled into a dreamy hour… ‘Maximum Bob’ and ‘American Gothic’ should also get honorable mentions…

  6. My mom loved Frank’s Place!

  7. How about Max Headroom and The Flash?

  8. HBO’s Carnivale! We were totally hooked when it got booted. Just left us all hanging. There was a protest where all these people sent in one tarot card a day to the head of HBO.

  9. Ian, I love Family Guy too. There are plenty of references in the show you actualy would have had to read a book to understand (mostly things that Brian says.)
By the way, I’m a 25 year old woman, so I’m not in the target demographic either, but my sisters and I love it!

I am so sad over the loss of Pushing Daisies. I am dying to see the final 3 episodes, which they my not air, but can’t bring myself to buy the dvds as much as I want them. I don’t want to give ABC anything! Maybe after a while I can get some second-hand.

Firefly, too, was incredible. And Arrested Development – are networks allergic to clever writing or something?

Ahh, curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal, ABC!

  10. I did terrible on this one…

And I agree with Lauren about Pushing Daisies.

Loved MSCL back when it was on. Great show.

I would’ve picked “Boomtown” too – I was really disappointed when that one was chopped.

@ Adam: look up “American and British spelling differences” on Wiki – “Doubled Consonants”.

  11. If I like a show, it’s almost certain it will be canceled: Farscape, Veronica Mars, Firefly, Carnivale, Wonderfalls, Earth 2, SeaQuest DSV, Pushing Daisies…

  12. RIP Pushing Daisies :(

  13. If only Ned’s magic touch worked on tv shows…

  14. Another virtual-nod to the unfairly canceled Maximun Bob. The writing on that show was amazing.

  15. (Whimpers) Pushing Daisies…
